4 Ways to Have Positive Self-Talk

Do you speak positively about yourself? Do you love yourself as much as you love your partner (or your dog!)?

If you’ve answered no to the above questions, it’s time you invested in a bit of positive self-talk practice.

What Is Positive Self-Talk?

What is positive self-talk, exactly? It’s a way to motivate yourself and improve your mood by setting goals and repeating positive affirmations throughout the day.

Positive self-talk can boost self-esteem, help you overcome anxiety and depression, and inspire you to reach your goals faster.

Improving Your Self Image

If you’re not using it already, self-talk is an easy way to change how you see yourself and take more control over your life. Here are some tips on how to have positive self-talk:

Improve Yourself

You can’t have positive self-talk unless you are happy with yourself and being happy with yourself doesn’t come easy.

If there are things you need to change, then get out there and do something about it.

Maybe you need to learn a new skill, like coding or learning how to dance?

Maybe you need to spend time alone every day, work on your social skills, or practice meditation or yoga?

You might even want to change something about yourself, like getting laser eye surgery (FYI SMILE eye surgery Melbourne is a great place to go) or change your look up.

No matter what your goal is, with enough dedication and hard work you will achieve it!

Refrain From Negative Thoughts as Often as Possible

Don’t beat yourself up for missing a deadline or getting something wrong at work by thinking those thoughts. Instead, redirect your negative thoughts to more productive subjects. Say something like, “I’m doing the best I can right now to handle this situation. This is exactly what I need to learn.”

This technique will reduce stress and help you feel less anxious. Of course, if you’re obsessive (and who isn’t?) about making it perfect, try repeating “It’s okay that it’s not perfect.” You’ll be able to let go of perfectionism without letting it totally take over your life!

Change Your Internal Dialogue

When you’re feeling bad, change the way you speak to yourself. Don’t ask how you can feel worse – ask how you can feel better, and then tell yourself exactly what that is.

Tell yourself that it’s okay to mess up sometimes and that it’s totally fine to accept your imperfections. Compliment yourself on work well done, on a new skill set, or on something fun you did earlier!

Make a list of things you love about yourself and post it where you will see it every day. If your negative thoughts still plague you, remind yourself these thoughts are not true.

Talk About What You Love About Yourself

Make a list of things you love about yourself. If they are things that are not exactly positive, it’s okay – you can still talk about them!

Whether you love your hair or your accent, tell yourself how much you love the fact that you have it. How wonderful it is to be who you are today!
