Best Vacation Destinations For This Year

Vacation Destination

Contents

If you’re heading on a vacation this year, it’s time to start planning out your destinations. Sure, you could head to the usual spots like Florida or California, but if you’re looking for something a bit more memorable, you may need to look outside the box. While there’s nothing wrong with the old standard destinations, the three following vacation ideas will give you a trip that you and your family will remember for a lifetime.

The Mediterranean

The first destination to consider is the Mediterranean. This region consists of countries that are either bordering the Mediterranean Sea or the Mediterranean Basin. Some of the notable spots are Italy, Greece, Israel, and Egypt. In total, there are 23 countries that make up this region, each with its own culture and history. If you’re interested in ancient history, this area is a perfect vacation destination for you. You can tour Grecian ruins from the Hellenic age, walk through the Roman Coliseum, or see the Pyramids of Giza on a trip to the Mediterranean.

Of course, it can be difficult to decide on just one vacation spot in such a large and diverse region such as the Mediterranean. If you want to tour the area without limiting yourself, you may want to consider a cruise. On a Mediterranean cruise, you’ll be able to see both the beautiful aquamarine seas that made the area so popular for travel as well as some of the historic sights that birthed modern-day culture. Depending on the cruise package you choose, your ports of call could include Santorini, Barcelona, or Rome. If you want to explore a beautiful mix of natural history and culture, head for the Mediterranean this year.

European Castles

The next destination to consider is Europe. While many people gravitate to the larger cities like London or Belfast, Europe has far more to offer. Hidden in the countryside among the hills and moors are thousands of castles from the medieval era. Many of these castles are open for tourists to explore, some being used as hotels or museums and some being solely dedicated as historical sites. While some of these old buildings are in ruins, many others are still in near-perfect condition, such as the Chateau D’Angers in France.

While many of these old castles are close enough to large cities that you can make a day trip, some people have charted backpacking routes through Europe that allow you to tour the best ones. If you like long hikes, consider a backpacking tour through the European countryside to see the best castles on the continent. Depending on the time of year you go, you can enjoy mild weather with plenty of sunshine following you on your hikes. Whether you prefer backpacking or day trips, European castles make for a great vacation destination.

South American Mountains

The third destination to consider this year is South America. There is one long mountain range running down the continent like a spine, spanning from the top by Bogata to the very tip by Cape Horn. These mountains gave sanctuary to civilizations like the Inca, and visitors can still see sites like Machu Picchu in Peru, the capital city of the ancient civilization still nestled in the peaks just as it was hundreds of years ago.

Further south, the Patagonian region hosts stately peaks and otherworldly glaciers for more experienced hikers. There are two sides to the Patagonian Andes– Chile and Argentina. Depending on which side you go to, you can visit a range of national parks that offer some of the most beautiful views on the planet. While these mountains are usually encouraged for more experienced hikers, there are tour companies that can take you to some of the easier spots without as much risk. If you want to have a memorable vacation full of stunning landscapes, take a look at South America for your next vacation.

There are hundreds of good destinations to get away to this year. Any of these three will give you a memorable trip that you can look back on fondly for the rest of your life.
