Roland first appears in “Program” where he is seen leading a group of programs that are attacking a human city in the Matrix. He then encounters the protagonists, Trinity and Neo, and is defeated by them.
In The Matrix Revolutions, Roland is seen leading an army of Sentinels to attack Zion, the last human city. He is defeated when Neo sacrifices himself to stop the Sentinels.
