Countries where the casino industry is on the rise

Casinos have been around for a long time, and it would seem that the very first casino – as we would know it today, that is – was built in 1638 in Venice. It was so that the government could be in control of its citizens’ gambling habits, and make some money from them.

Strangely, even though we love new King Casino games today, they didn’t really take off for quite some time, perhaps due to the sensibilities of the public and the idea that gambling was sinful. It wasn’t until the 19th century that casinos really started to be built in earnest around the world. The good news for those who love to gamble is that the building hasn’t really stopped since. So where is the casino industry on the rise? There are a number of places.

China

Not usually the first place that comes to mind when you are thinking of famous gambling hotspots, China is very keen to make more of the gambling industry. Macau in particular is really growing. This city is found on the south coast of China, and is beginning to rival Las Vegas in size and choice when it comes to vibrant, exciting casinos.

Once, Macau was a Portuguese colony, and it was very religious in its views, having a Catholic idealism behind it. Over the years this has changed, and it is now viewed much more as a gambler’s paradise than a religious one.

In 1999, Macau became part of China again, which could have meant that the gambling had to stop since there are strict rule in China about this particular industry. Yet because it still has different laws to mainland China, the casinos were allowed to stay, and more are being built all the time.

USA

Clearly casinos are popular in the USA, and when you think of American casinos you are going to immediately think of Las Vegas. Why wouldn’t you? ‘Sin City’ is famous for its hotels and casinos, and is where it really all started.

Yet there is another place that is just as exciting. It might not get the recognition that Las Vegas does, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore it. We’re talking about Atlantic City. In fact, Atlantic City has some advantages over and above Las Vegas. Whereas Vegas is located in a desert and there isn’t a whole lot to do when you are there other than gamble, Atlantic City is close to the beach, meaning you can have an entire holiday there and you won’t feel the need to gamble all the time, making it much more enjoyable for many people.

UK

The UK population has always been keen on gambling, so it should come as no surprise to find that the UK itself has a growing casino industry. Although it has taken longer than other countries to get into the swing of creating gorgeous new casinos, London in particular is now growing and offering much more to anyone who fancies a flutter.
