OVER-THE-TOP HYPOCRISY

Article content

So a group in Quebec is taking the federal government to court because an Indigenous Governor General, with impeccable credentials, is not fully bilingual.

Quebec has just passed Bill 96 that all but outlaws speaking English. The hypocrisy here is over the top.

Quebec can’t have it both ways; either you are a working partner within the federation or you are a separate entity that can enforce racist discriminatory laws (bills 21 and 96) used to appease the staunch separatists.

LOVE AFFAIR CONTINUES

I happened to be watching a bit of the Canada Day celebrations on TV and Mr. Freeze was interviewed. It was mind-boggling to see the crowd behind him seemingly starry-eyed and hanging on his every word. No wonder this country is in serious trouble.

FORTUNATE JOE?

It wasn’t a fell swoop, but in a matter of days (two) Vice-President Kamala Harris went from President Joe Biden running in 2024 to Biden intending to run.

Last week, Harris told CNN’s Dana Bash “Joe Biden is running for re-election and I will be his ticket mate.” She also threw in a “full stop.” Then, two days later, Harris told reporters on Air Force Two, “The president intends to run and if he does, I will be his ticket mate. We will run together.” (No full stop.)

In March, President Biden said, “In the next election, I’d be very fortunate if I had that same man running against me.”

It will be interesting to see just how “fortunate” it will be for Joe Biden in 2024 if he runs against former president Donald Trump.

SEE THE ROAD JUST FINE

If you have an Ontario driver’s licence and are 80 years of age, the Ontario government takes control of your life and if you cannot read fine print in a box under artificial light you are obliged to spend money on a pair of driving glasses — or the totalitarian government will take your licence away! I can see vehicles, road signs and all other things in the environment. I can even read fine newspaper print in good sunlight. (I exercise my eyes four times per day.)

We need to put an end to this infringement. I have sent an email regarding this to Premier Doug Ford, but haven’t had a response from him. I hope many others will try.

TRAGIC LOSS

Re: Child left in car is a tragedy that can happen to anyone, online edition, June 28

I want to compliment Liz Braun on her bravery for showing compassion for that poor mother who accidentally left her child in the car. I agree that that awful tragedy could happen to anyone, especially in the distraction and multiple stresses that are part of most people’s lives, as far as I see. This tragedy could happen to me.
