Exam Preparation

Contents

Class 9 is an important stage of secondary education. Exams in class 9 are internal and do not have as much significance as the board exams that take place in class 10. Any topic you study as a part of the syllabus in class 9 prepares the students for further studies in grades 10, 11, and 12. The basic concepts and topics in each subject are taught in class 9. A strong base in any subject is crucial to understanding complex methods and questions that come up in the higher classes.

While preparing for class 9 exams, students often underestimate the importance of developing a thorough understanding through regular and well-scheduled practice. Losing sleep hours a few nights before the exam, trying to go through the entire syllabus will not help you learn anything in any subject and result in a barely satisfactory result. Students need to understand the importance of preparing a well-timed schedule so that the syllabus can be covered in time for practice with proper knowledge of all concepts before the exam.

Hindi, being one of the main subjects till class 10, can be difficult for many students to score well in. This difficulty can be due to improper understanding of chapters and topics, frequent grammatical or spelling errors, weak vocabulary, or ill-timed preparation before the exam. However, it is important to score well in the language since it may negatively affect your result in the class 10 board exams.

To score well in your class 9 Hindi exam, you need practice and a proper study schedule. Here are some tips to keep in mind while preparing a study schedule:

  • Know your needs

While making your timetable, it is important to be flexible according to your strengths and weaknesses. Keep in mind the amount of time you need to spend on each topic, as the ones with a weak grip may require more time and practice than others. There may also be topics that have higher weightage than others and preparing them well will help you score more. Take suggestions from your Hindi teacher to know about the chapters or concepts that may require more attention during preparation.

  • Allocate appropriate hours

Studying for a maximum of 6 hours daily other than the time spent in school is enough to score well in class 9 exams. Take a short nap for half or one hour after school to give rest to your mind and body. This will refresh you enough to be able to study without feeling drowsy. However, do not study consecutively for 6 hours. In one sitting, study for 1-2 hours.

  • Take breaks to do something else

After 1-2 hours of studying, take a break of 30 minutes to give your mind some time to rest and replenish all your energy. Try avoiding the use of any electronic appliances like television or phone, this will only lead to exhaustion. Consider taking a peaceful walk before you begin studying again.

  • Have goals for each study session

While preparing your schedule, divide the total hours of studying in a day into sessions of 1 or 2 hours each. Appoint goals that you need to achieve at the end of each session. For example, the goal for a 30-minute session before you go to school can include going through topics for a summary and planning what you have to study in the other sessions later.

  • Study one topic from every section

The Hindi exam involves 4 sections: unseen comprehension, grammar, writing skills, and literature. It is important to prepare well for each of these as they hold equal weightage in terms of marks. It is suggested that students practice or study one topic from each of these sections daily. In the case of unseen comprehension, one sample exercise can be solved every day. These can be easily found in other reference books or on the internet.

  • Keep a revision session at the end

At the end of each day, reserve the last session for a revision. This shall help you recall every topic that you studied in the day so that you do not forget everything the next day. This will also help you retain the knowledge for longer. Take help of class 9 hindi book solutions to evaluate your performance.

  • Study difficult topics more often

There may be grammar or literature topics that seem more difficult than others. Dedicate a whole session to these topics on alternate days to help understand them better. For other topics, you can study them at a gap of a week or 4-5 days.

  • Separate hours for other activities

In between the study sessions, relax by doing other usual and daily activities. Make sure to perform some physical activity like playing some sports, taking a walk, etc. Students can also spend this time doing their chores.

  • Start your day with yoga or meditation

Doing yoga or meditation for at least 15-20 minutes every morning as you wake up will help refresh your mind and improve blood circulation among many other benefits. Your body will also feel better throughout the day.

  • Schedule for weekends

On holidays or weekends, try solving a sample paper or have a written test that can help you do a weekly revision. However, try not to spend too many hours studying on Sundays. It would help you feel refreshed and get a break before the new week begins.

  • Make notes during each session

It is important to note key points or important details from each topic or chapter. Keep these notes handy so that you can take a look anytime for a quick revision before you start the next topic. This can be used during the daily revision session as well or a day before the exam.

Conclusion

It is important to keep in mind that studying regularly according to your schedule is as crucial as maintaining your mental and physical health. Do not lose sleep hours while trying to study late at night. Eat a balanced diet to keep your health in check.
