Chelsea interested in Upamecano

More from Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella, who confirms Dayot Upamecano is a target.

Chelsea want to sign at least two defenders this summer, with Matthijs de Ligt and Jules Kounde further up Thomas Tuchel’s shortlist.

Bayern are proving stern competition for De Ligt which could in turn see Upamecano available for a move.

Chelsea want £7m for Azpilicueta

Chelsea want £7million to sell Cesar Azpilicueta to Barcelona, writes Nizaar Kinsella.

The 32-year-old has already agreed personal terms on a two-year deal with the Spanish giants, which will see him pocket a substantial pay rise compared to his Blues contract.

Azpilicueta will earn £11million a season before tax and has held talks with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel and new co-owner Todd Boehly about making the switch.

Chelsea want to recoup the £7m paid for Azpilicueta when he joined from Marseille a decade ago, but there is a belief that further negotiations will see the asking price lowered.

Lyon confirm Paqueta bids

Lyon star Lucas Paqueta has been the subject of bids, Lyon have confirmed, amid links with Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle.

The midfielder is considered the Ligue 1 side’s prized asset, and Newcastle failed with an offer in January during negotiations for Bruno Guimaraes.

North London rivals Arsenal and Spurs have also been credited with interest this summer, and Lyon president this weekend told reporters: “There are proposals for him.

“There are certain players who can feel complete in the project, and others who don’t. Economically, we have the means to pursue our ideas and objectives.”

Brentford not giving up on Eriksen

Interesting one, this.

Despite Christian Eriksen giving Manchester United his word that he will be joining on a three-year deal, Brentford still retain hope that the player will stay.

That’s according to the Mirror, who report that Thomas Frank has not given up on persuading Eriksen to extend his Bees deal.

United, meanwhile, are aiming to complete the deal to allow Eriksen to join the squad on their pre-season tour.

Barca and Mendes’ audacious Bernardo plan

Barcelona and agent Jorges Mendes have devised a strategy to sign £85m-rated Bernardo Silva from Manchester City.

According to Mundo Deportivo, they hope to lure City by paying a small fee up front and then the rest over a number of years.

For the avoidance of any doubt: that’s how almost every transfer to paid for.

Chelsea target Laporte staying put

Aymeric Laporte has ruled out leaving Manchester City this summer amid interest from Chelsea.

Standard Sport understands the Blues made an approach for the centre-back, only for City to reject the prospect out of hand. Chelsea, though, are expected to sign team-mates Raheem Sterling and Nathan Ake in the coming days.

Laporte was heavily linked with an Etihad Stadium exit last summer but, after a stellar season back in the fold, is now not looking to leave.
