Use These Design Trends to Get Ready for the 2021 Autumn Season

Hallelujah! Autumn is finally here and we’re eager to turn our summertime oasis into a cozy little den. If you’re in the process of buying or selling a home and aren’t sure how you can decorate your home to commemorate the new season, we have a few ideas to help spark your creativity.

Earth-tones

Looking outside, the landscape is turning from vibrant shades of green to the warmer tones of reds, yellows, oranges and browns. You can draw inspiration from Mother Earth and incorporate these colors in your home in ways that don’t mean covering everything in paint!

How to use earth-tones

A great way to introduce a seasonal color palette into your decor is by accessorizing. This goes beyond pumpkin knick knacks and hay bales. You can use table clothes, runners, and napkins to create an autumnal tablescape. You can stack logs near the fireplace, display brass or copper accent pieces on the mantel or coffee table, or even use dried twigs, flowers, and leaves to create a centerpiece for the dining table.

Textured fabrics and materials

There are a lot of different textures and materials you can experiment with to create your autumn decor and our favorites include:

  • Velvet
  • Tweed
  • Flannel
  • Cable knits
  • Tartan

How to use textured fabrics

You can use the aforementioned fabrics in blankets, pillows, curtains, table cloths, and so forth. Not only can you mix and match fabrics, but you can use different materials and finishes as well. For example, if you’re using a burlap table runner, you can use small gourds, wooden candleholders and metal napkin rings to jazz up your tablescape.

Rustic decorating

Rustic decor doesn’t mean your house needs to look like a cottage you’d read about in Little House on the Prairie. Rustic decor can include tartan throw blankets, brown leather furniture and lots of candles, but it can also look sophisticated as well. It’s all about how you mix and match the different elements.

How to make rustic decor look sophisticated

If you already have a lot of dark wood elements, consider adding white or ivory accents for contrast. An example of this could be as simple as putting white candles on dark wood candle holders or placing an ivory throw blanket on a leather sofa. You could hang a mirror in a rich wooden frame over a mantle or use wood crates or rattan baskets for additional storage.

Comfortable sitting areas

One of the easiest ways you can create that autumn feeling in your home is to create a comfortable seating area. This seating area can be by a fireplace, near a window, or even a cozy corner. The name of the game here is to create a space where you can relax and take it easy.

How to create a comfortable seating area

Although what it means to be comfortable is subjective, you can’t go wrong with a soft blanket, an end table, pillows, and a comfortable chair or sofa to lounge on. If you’re creating a cozy space that small children will use as well, you could opt for floor pillows, bean bag chairs and kid-friendly lighting solutions (like using fairy lights instead of candles).

Fall decor can help sell real estate!

If you’re thinking about selling your home in the near future, real estate agent insights indicate that it’ll be a seller’s market for the foreseeable future. Although it’s recommended that your home features neutral decor, that doesn’t mean it has to be devoid of all personality and warmth.

A nicely decorated home doesn’t just look good, it can improve the way you feel about your home. More importantly, a well decorated home can go a long way in making your guests and (more importantly) potential buyers feel welcome and they’ll even start envisioning themselves living in your home – and that is paramount if you’re trying to sell quickly!
