17 Fixes for When Your iPhone Photos Won’t Load

We’ve all been there. You go to view your photos on your iPhone and they just won’t load and wonder why are my photos not loading?  It’s frustrating, especially if you’re trying to show off a new picture to a friend.

Before you start panicking why are my photos not loading, try some of these fixes. One of them is bound to work and get your photos loading again in no time.

  1. Check Your Internet Connection

This seems like a no-brainer, but it’s worth checking first. If your iPhone can’t connect to the internet, it won’t be able to load photos.

Make sure you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network or have cellular data turned on. If you’re not sure how to do either of those things, check out our article on connecting to Wi-Fi on your iPhone.

  1. Restart Your iPhone

If your internet connection is fine, the next thing to try is restarting your iPhone. Sometimes, a simple restart is all it takes to fix minor glitches and get things working again.

To restart your iPhone, just hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the power off slider appears. Slide it to the right to turn off your iPhone. Once it’s off, hold down the Sleep/Wake button again to turn it back on.

  1. Check for an iOS Update

If restarting didn’t do the trick, the next thing to try is updating your iPhone to the latest version of iOS. Apple regularly releases updates for its mobile operating system, and each one comes with bug fixes and performance improvements.

To check for an iOS update, open the Settings app and tap General -> Software Update. If an update is available, tap Download and Install.

  1. Reset Your Network Settings

If you’re still having trouble with your internet connection, the next thing to try is resetting your network settings. This will remove all your saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, as well as your cellular settings.

To reset your network settings, go to Settings -> General -> Reset and tap Reset Network Settings.

  1. Try a Different Browser

If you’re trying to load photos in Safari and they just won’t show up, try using a different browser. The built-in Apple apps are usually reliable, but third-party apps can sometimes do a better job.

A few popular alternative browsers for iOS are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and DuckDuckGo.

  1. Check for a Photo App Update

If you’re trying to load photos in the Photos app and they won’t show up, it could be due to a buggy update. Open the App Store and tap Updates. If an update is available for the Photos app, tap Update.

  1. Force Quit the Photos App

If you’re still having trouble with the Photos app, the next thing to try is force quitting it. This will close the app and clear its cache, which might help fix the problem.

To force quit an app, double-click the Home button to open the App Switcher. Find the Photos app and swipe up on it to close it.

  1. Restart Your iPhone Again

If force quitting the Photos app didn’t help, restart your iPhone again. Sometimes, you need to restart your device twice in a row to fix a problem.

  1. Check Your Storage

If your iPhone is running out of space, it might have trouble loading photos. To see how much storage you have left, go to Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage.

If you’re running low on storage, you can free up some space by deleting old apps, photos, and videos. You can also offload unused apps to make more room.

  1. Try a Different Photo

If you’re trying to load a specific photo and it won’t show up, it might be corrupted. To check, try loading a different photo. If that photo loads without any issues, the problem is with the first photo.

  1. Delete the Photo

If the photo you’re trying to load is corrupted, the only thing you can do is delete it. Once it’s gone, you won’t be able to view it again.

To delete a photo, open the Photos app and find the photo you want to delete. Tap the trash can icon and then tap Delete Photo to confirm.

  1. Check Your iCloud Settings

If you’re using iCloud to sync your photos, the problem might be with your iCloud settings. To check, go to Settings -> iCloud and make sure the switch next to Photos is turned on.

  1. Turn Off iCloud Photo Library

If the switch next to Photos is turned on, try turning it off and then back on again. This will restart the iCloud Photo Library sync process and might fix the problem.

  1. Turn Off and Back On iCloud

If restarting the iCloud Photo Library sync process didn’t help, the next thing to try is turning off iCloud and then turning it back on again. This will restart all your iCloud services and might fix the problem.

To turn off iCloud, go to Settings -> iCloud and tap the switch next to each app. To turn iCloud back on, just repeat the process.

  1. Check Your Photo Sharing Settings

If you’re trying to share photos and they won’t load, the problem might be with your photo sharing settings. To check, go to Settings -> Photos and make sure the switch next to Share My Photo Stream is turned on.

  1. Reset Your iPhone

If none of the above fixes worked, the last thing you can try is resetting your iPhone. This will delete all your data and settings, so make sure you have a backup before you proceed.

To reset your iPhone, go to Settings -> General -> Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

  1. Contact Apple Support

If you’ve tried all of the above fixes and your photos still won’t load, the problem might be  with your iPhone itself. In this case, the best thing to do is contact Apple Support.

They might be able to help you troubleshoot the problem- why are my photos not loading. If it’s still not working, try repairing or replacing your iPhone.
