Prime Day TV deals are usually on a par with Black Friday TV deals, so you should end up saving a fair amount by buying now, compared to other sales events. The only catch is that the best offers will be at Amazon, meaning you’ll need to have a Prime membership. Still, we’re expecting to see Best Buy and Walmart offer up some great rival sales that should mean deep discounts for plenty of TV brands, whether you’re looking for a cheaper TCL unit or something with the latest tech from Samsung or LG.
When do the Prime Day TV deals start?
Amazon recently confirmed the Prime Day 2022 date to be July 12 and July 13. Since this huge event is happening right on the heels of the Fourth of July sales, this summer is an exciting time for any savvy shoppers who are looking for a great deal. And before the official sale has even begun, early Prime Day deals (like those highlighted above) are already dropping in the lead-up to the huge sales event.
Prime Day started in 2015 to celebrate the date on which Amazon was founded — July 5, 1994. Since then, it’s stuck around its July slot except for two notable exceptions. Back in 2020, Prime Day was moved to October because the pandemic disrupted schedules and supply chains substantially. Following that, it returned in 2021 to a more normal slot, albeit in June rather than July.
Where are the best Prime Day TV deals?
Prime Day may have once been the exclusive sales event for Amazon but those times have changed. Everyone is keen to get in on the act now. Bearing in mind that Prime Day is exclusively for Prime members, other retailers having sales and Prime Day TV deals can prove super useful, as it means everyone has access to them without needing a membership. We’re not saying to ignore Amazon by any means. The retailer often has sales on TVs with particular highlights often being TVs that offer Fire TV functionality because Amazon loves its sale items to tie into the Amazon ecosystem as much as possible.
When it comes to awesome TV deals, we’re feeling pretty confident that Best Buy and Walmart will have some great sales. Generally, both retailers offer a lot of deep discounts on TVs throughout the year, and we can’t see that changing when Prime Day comes around. Both stores have the advantage that in many cases, you’re able to order online before picking up in-store, meaning you get your TV faster than relying on it being delivered to your home.
Another outside option is to consider B&H Photo Video. The retailer isn’t usually as impressive or as wide-reaching as the aforementioned sites, but once in a while, you will stumble across a great TV deal. If you’ve got the time, it’s certainly worth taking a quick look while you’ve been checking out the big three instead.
Should you shop the Prime Day TV deals now or wait until July 12?
This is a better question than whether you should wait for Black Friday (which, as we already stated, you probably shouldn’t if you want a new TV before the holidays). It makes sense that the absolute best Prime Day TV deals are likely to be on offer during the sale itself, which runs from July 12 to July 13. However, that two-day window is smaller than most holiday sales, and on Amazon, the best Prime Day deals are limited-time offers that frequently sell out quickly, so we understand the urge to shop now.
Admittedly, waiting for the Prime Day deals to land on July 12 does increase the risk of missing out on that bargain you planned to score. Another thing to consider is that Prime Day is for Prime members, so you need Amazon Prime in order to shop the official sale. Other retailers run their own concurrent sales to compete with Amazon, though, so if you don’t have Prime and can’t take advantage of a free Prime trial, then you’re not out of luck. Many early Prime Day deals from other retailers are nearly as good a what you’ll see come July 12 and 13, and in the event that an item you bought does become cheaper, you can likely return it and grab the better deal (you should maybe even wait to open your item until the curtains have fallen on Prime Day, just to be sure).
Ultimately, it’s up to you whether the trade-off between grabbing an early Prime Day deal or waiting for the actual Prime Day TV deals is worth it. Wait until July 12 and the item you wanted might sell out before you can buy it; grab an early deal now and you might miss out on a better deal later. In our opinion, though, it’s still better to wait for Prime Day if you want to score the absolute best TV deals possible. Just bear in mind that you’ll have to cast a wider net if you don’t have a Prime membership, and no matter where you shop for Prime Day TV deals, you’ll have to be quick on the trigger.
