Bass Pro Shop Discrimination Lawsuit
In the year 2011, Bass Pro Shops was sued for failure to hire HIspanic and Black Applicants for their country and people across the country were just in complete shock to find this one out. It made headlines across the country and it cost the company a lot, however, the company was quick to deny what was being told against them.
The Bass Pro Shops was sued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for failing to hire Hispanic and Black Applicants. In court filings, Bass Pro Shops denied all of the allegations and in 2014, the Bass Pro Shops appealed for lower court’s ruling. They were rejected by the court and in 2016, the Bass Pro Shops tried again and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission asked the 5th Circuit Court to reject their appeal on the grounds of Bass Pro Shops engaging in the practice of reckless indifference when it comes to the practice of hiring minorities for their company.
In 2017, Bass Pro Shops had to settle their discrimination lawsuit with the US Equal Employement Opportunity Commission. They had to pay 10.5 million and the court noted that any of the payments that the company made should not be constructed as an admission of liability.
Another thing that the court asked the company to do is to strengthen their diversity hiring and recruiting practices. They were asked by the court to post job openings at schools that had a significant minority population.
