‘Too many mistakes!’: Footage emerges of Erik ten Hag chiding his Manchester United players as they struggle to perform his one-touch training drill… while his former Ajax stars show how it’s meant to be done

  • New video footage compares training drill between Manchester United and Ajax
  • Red Devils stars are seen struggling with instructions from Erik Ten Hag
  • Ajax players seen having no problems in performing same drill under Ten Hag

A new video has emerged showing one of Erik ten Hag’s first training drills at Manchester United and his unhappiness at how the players completed it.

The Dutchman officially took over the reigns at United last week, and all eyes will now be on how the 52-year-old implements the style of play that made his Ajax side one of the most attractive teams in Europe.

Another video has also emerged of Ten Hag’s former players taking part in the same drill during his time as Ajax manager – and the comparison is rather unflattering for United’s players.

Ahead of the new season, the new video shows the manager putting the United players through a passing drill and from the sounds of it, the exercise isn’t going as well as planned.

Ten Hag can be heard, along with his coaching staff, shouting to the players ‘right foot, left foot’ after each pass and even telling his squad that they are ‘making too many mistakes’.

In the footage of the new United manager instructing his former club Ajax to do the same exact drill, the Ajax players can been seen performing with much more success, with the passes looking more accurate, played with higher intensity, and being without the players needing to break their stride.

United fans have been quick to jump on the comparison, pointing out the vast difference between the quick interchanges of the Ajax players and the mistakes that United’s men are making with the same drill.

One fan goes as far as lambasting the Red Devils’ players because it looks like one of the ‘biggest football brands on earth’ can’t seem to be able to execute a simple passing drill.

Fans will be hoping the signing of Tyrell Malacia from Feyeonord will help bed-in Ten Hag’s new style of play and the club are confident of securing further names to boost the Old Trafford squad.

Talks remain ongoing with Barcelona for midfielder Frenkie de Jong, and there are hopes that Ajax’s Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez could also join him. United also want to sign another old Ten Hag favourite, the skilful forward Antony, from Ajax.

Christian Eriksen is also set to join the club after agreeing a deal to move to Old Trafford. However, the future of Cristiano Ronaldo remains unsure, with the United star keen on a move away from Old Trafford.

With just over a month until United’s opening Premier League fixture, Ten Hag has pre-season trips to Thailand and Australia to oversee before the new season kicks-off at home to Brighton.
